The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expecting that they will begin cleaning up soil that has high contamination levels of lead and arsenic near Park Crest Elementary School in Garland, Texas. This is due to the Globe Union lead battery manufacturing site.

Nearby residential areas can expect clean up to begin by the end of August 2021. EPA expects to spend approximately 10 weeks cleaning up the site of the incident. EPA also claimed that if more locations are identified as being contaminated with lead, the cleanup process will likely take longer than ten weeks. Testing of the local soils began back in September of 2019, which is what prompted the EPA to get involved with this matter.
